As head of UGA's Department of Psychology and a leading scholar on narcissism, Dr Campbell has devoted more than 20 years to studying narcissism and in his tenure, has authored more than 150 academic publications. His talk addresses the complex implications of narcissism: how we can harness its power and avoid falling under its influence.

Dr W. Keith Campbell is Head of the Department of Psychology. He holds a BA from the University of California at Berkeley, an MA from San Diego State University, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Campbell is the author of more than 150 scientific articles and chapters, and the books, When You Love a Man Who Loves Himself: How to Deal with a One-way Relationship, The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement (with Jean Twenge), and The Handbook of Narcissism and Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Theoretical Approaches, Empirical Findings, and Treatments (with Josh Miller). His work on narcissism has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, and Time, and he has made numerous radio and television appearances, including The Today Show, NPR’s All Things Considered, Fox News, and CNN.

While the research is still out on why this is happening; Ann Barnes outlines the different kinds of narcissists, and provides a framework on how to work with them (or not!). Ann began her legal career acting as a lawyer and business advisor for numerous private and publicly held companies. She specialized in corporate securities and intellectual property law within the entertainment and consumer packaged goods industries.

Her parallel passion for health and wellness led her to quit law and found and operate a number of superfood companies. Ann is a well-respected public speaker and health advocate and has written two health-based recipe books: “Be a Better Being” and “Eat Super, Be Super”. Her greatest accomplishment is being a Mom to her 2 teens, who keep her on her game at all times. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Over 6 years ago, Ann ’s passion for plant-based wellness and entrepreneurial opportunities resulted in her funding, co-founding and acting as Chairman of the first Canadian licensed Medical Cannabis Company: Peace Naturals Project. A year ago she sold the majority of her interest in the medical cannabis public company.

Eines Tages wurde Antonakis von seinen eigenen Forschungsergebnissen erschüttert: Allein anhand der Gesichter der Spitzenkandidaten konnten Kinder zuverlässig die Sieger von Parlamentsstichwahlen vorhersagen. Weitere Studien aus Politik und Wirtschaft trugen zur Bestätigung bei, dass das Aussehen den Erfolg einer Führungskraft bestimmen kann. Anstatt seinen Beruf zu wechseln und plastischer Chirurg zu werden, fragte sich Antonakis: Wie können Entscheidungsträger, abgesehen von ihrem Aussehen, mittels Worten und Taten eine Verbindung zu ihrem Publikum aufbauen? Antonakis fand eine Antwort: mit Charisma. Er zeigt, was Charisma ist, wie es gemessen werden kann und warum es in Bereichen von der US-Präsidentschaft bis zum einfachsten Kommunikationsmedium, das je genutzt wurde, wichtig ist: Twitter.

Populism is on the rise in Europe as recent elections in France and Germany showed, as well as the surge in Eastern European countries such as Poland, Hungary, and Romania. Where in 2000 populist parties pulled more than 20% of the votes in two countries, today, they managed to do so in ten countries. In Italy, a shocking 50% of people who went out to vote supported populist parties during the elections in March 2018.

How should we understand this surge of support for populist leaders and the growing dissatisfaction with the political establishment in Europe? Why does populism seem more relentless in Central and Eastern European countries than in Western Europe? Is it only a matter of time before populist parties come to power in Western countries as well? What socio-political factors underlie the populist turn across Europe and how are they different in Central and Eastern Europe in comparison to developments in Western Europe?

Together with leading thinkers who have sharply analysed populist developments and are from various parts of Europe, we will discuss the current populist mood in Europe and dive into the reasons behind the populist turn. With: Professor Jan-Werner Müller, working at Princeton University. He is a leading expert on populism and author of the book What is Populism? (2016).

This programme is part of a programme series on populism across Europe organised by the Time to Talk Network (The European Network of Houses for Debate). This series is supported by The Open Society Initiative for Europe.
Philosopher and historian Ulrike Guerot. After working for the EU for 20 years as a political advisor, she subsequently predicted the death of the EU. Currently, she is the director of the European Democracy Lab, a think tank dedicated to the future of European democracy. Polish sociologist and political commentator Slawomir Sierakowski, leader of the Eastern European left-wing movement “Krytyka Polityczna”.

Politiker und Parteien, die Vorurteile schüren und einfache Lösungen versprechen, sind erfolgreich.
Die Demokratie, wie wir sie kennen, steht vor einer gewaltigen Herausforderung. Doch warum sind
Populisten so erfolgreich? Was ist ihr Geheimrezept? Gibt es eine Methode, die sie verbindet? Gibt
es so etwas wie eine Populisten-Formel?

Sie verachten demokratische Strukturen, scheren sich nicht um Political Correctness und
schon gar nicht um Minderheiten: Populisten. Ob Le Pen, Wilders, Petry oder Trump - gerade
jetzt scheinen Populisten auf dem weltpolitischen Parkett präsenter denn je zu sein. Doch
woran liegt das? Haben sie ein Geheimrezept, das ihnen zum Erfolg verhilft?

Diesen Fragen geht ZDFinfo mit Hilfe zahlreicher Experten am Mittwoch, 9. August 2017, 20.15 Uhr, in der Dokumentation "Die sieben größten Tricks der Populisten" auf den Grund.

Welcher Methoden bedienen sie sich, um an die Macht zu kommen? Die Dokumentation
identifiziert sieben Themenfelder, die Populisten besonders wirksam einsetzen: Abgrenzung,
Sprache, Angst, Tabubrüche, Verschwörung, Inszenierung und Fake-News.

Interviewpartner unterschiedlichster Fachrichtungen ordnen die sieben Tricks ein, erklären
und durchleuchten sie. Unter ihnen sind beispielsweise Heribert Prantl, Mitglied der
Chefredaktion der Süddeutschen Zeitung, die Neurolinguistin Elisabeth Wehling, der
Politikberater und Wahlkampfexperte Frank Stauss sowie der ehemalige CSU-Politiker Peter
Gauweiler, der sich selbst als Populist bezeichnet.

Die Doku zeigt aber auch, wann und wo Populismus beginnt, ab wann er gefährlich wird
und mit welchen Mitteln man ihm begegnen kann.

In jüngster Zeit hat Hannah Arendts Werk eine neue Aktualität erhalten. Ihr Buch "Über die Revolution" nimmt eine zentrale Bedeutung bei der politischen Debatte von Oppositionellen in den Ländern des Arabischen Frühlings ein; ihr Essay "Macht und Gewalt" hilft bei der Betrachtung der Unrechtsregimes unserer Tage und ihr "Bericht von der Banalität des Bösen", das vermutlich zu den meist zitierten Versuchen zählt, die Wurzeln und Abgründe des nationalsozialistischen Regimes in der Person von Adolf Eichmann zu erfassen, verweist auf unsere modernen Gesellschaften.

Der Film spielt auf zwei Ebenen. Er porträtiert Hannah Arendt, ihre "Vita activa", und zeichnet ihren exemplarischen Weg als deutsche Jüdin nach, die sich stets dem Ungehorsam verpflichtet fühlte. Geboren 1906 in Hannover, Studium bei den Philosophen Karl Jaspers und Martin Heidegger, mit dem sie eine Liebesbeziehung hatte, Flucht aus Nazi-Deutschland und Emigration in die USA, wo sie sich in der zionistischen Bewegung und der Erforschung und Deutung des Totalitarismus widmete. Hannah Arendt ging es vor dem Hintergrund der nationalsozialistischen Massenbewegung und dem totalitären Bewusstsein stets darum, den Menschen vor seiner Degradierung zum Konsumenten, "Automaten" und reinen Bürokraten zu bewahren. Denn diese sind willenlose Wesen, die "leer" sind und mit denen Ideologen alles machen können.

Hannah Arendts politisches Denken blieb stets der Aktualität verbunden. Und so schlägt der Film immer wieder Brücken zu gegenwärtigen Entwicklungen und Brennpunkten nach Ägypten, in die Ukraine, nach Israel, Hongkong und Kanada. In der Begegnung mit jungen Menschen wird Hannah Arendts Denken nachgespürt. Die Dokumentation holt Hannah Arendt ins Heute und thematisiert ihre Relevanz für politisches Handeln unserer Tage.
