Als die Arena wechselte und es nicht mehr um die Nominierung sondern um das Präsidentenamt ging, wurde rasch klar, dass es kein gewöhnlicher Wahlkampf werden würde - ganz einfach, weil Trump kein gewöhnlicher Kandidat war. Zum einen war er beispiellos unerfahren (...) Zum anderen sorgten Trumps Demagogie, seine extremistischen Ansichten über Einwanderer und Muslime, seine Bereitschaft, grundlegende Anstandsnormen zu brechen, sowie das Lob, das er Wladimir Putin und anderen Diktatoren spendete, in einem großen Teil der Medien und des politischen Establishments für Unbehagen. (...) Es ist immer ungewiss, wie sich ein Politiker ohne Erfahrung im Amt verhalten wird, aber antidemokratische Führer lassen sich, wie erwähnt, häufig, erkennen, bevor sie an die Macht gelangen. Unser Autokraten-Lackmustest ergibt für Trump in allen vier Punkten ein positives Ergebnis.

When the arena changed and it was no longer about the nomination but about the presidency, it quickly became clear that it would not be an ordinary election campaign - simply because Trump was not an ordinary candidate. On the one hand, he was unprecedentedly inexperienced (...) On the other hand, Trump's demagogy, his extremist views on immigrants and Muslims, his willingness to break basic standards of decency, and the praise he gave to Vladimir Putin and other dictators were large and the media and the political establishment felt discomfort. (...) It is always uncertain how a politician with inexperience will behave in the office, but, as mentioned, anti-democratic leaders are often identified before they come to power. Our autocrat litmus test gives Trump a positive result in all four points.
